ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Russian President Vladimir Putin has conveyed his deep condolences to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto following the devastating floods and landslides that struck several regions in Sumatra.
In a statement published on the official Instagram account @rusemb_indonesia, Putin expressed Russia’s sorrow over the significant loss of life and large-scale destruction caused by the disaster.
“Your Excellency, Mr. President, please accept my deepest condolences regarding the tragic loss of life and the extensive damage caused by the flooding in the northern part of Sumatra Island,” Putin wrote in his message on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
He added that the Russian people stand in solidarity with Indonesians grieving the loss of their loved ones.
“Russia mourns together with those who have lost family members and relatives in this natural disaster,” he said.
Putin also expressed hope that the affected areas would soon recover and return to stability.
“I sincerely hope that the affected regions will swiftly return to normal life—safe and prosperous. Respectfully, Vladimir Putin,” the message concluded.
Death Toll in Sumatra Climbs to 316
Meanwhile, Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported a continued rise in fatalities resulting from the widespread flooding and landslides across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
According to BNPB Chief Lt. Gen. Suharyanto, as of Sunday, November 30, 2025, the total death toll has reached 316.
Below are the latest official figures for deaths and missing persons in the three provinces:
Aceh: 54 dead, 55 missing
West Sumatra: 90 dead, 87 missing
North Sumatra: 172 dead, 147 missing
Suharyanto emphasized the importance of accelerating emergency operations. Basic utilities such as electricity and water have partially recovered, though many areas remain affected.
“Electricity and water supply have largely been restored, but many areas are still experiencing outages. PLN has deployed personnel, and we urge faster efforts, especially in isolated locations where residents are in urgent need,” he stated. (AT Network)
