ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Tokyo has reaffirmed its status as a global tourism powerhouse.

Japan’s capital city has officially been ranked the third-best city destination in the world for 2025, while simultaneously claiming the title of Asia’s top city, outperforming regional rivals such as Singapore and Seoul.

The ranking is based on the Euromonitor City Destinations Index 2025, as cited by TimeOut on December 9, 2025. Tokyo placed just behind the world’s top two cities, securing a position ahead of several major global metropolises in the top ten.

Why Tokyo Surpassed Singapore and Seoul?

Tokyo’s global appeal lies in its rare ability to balance cutting-edge technology with deeply preserved cultural heritage. This unique fusion continues to attract travelers from across the world, from first-time visitors to seasoned global explorers.

For those drawn to urban energy, Shibuya’s iconic scramble crossing and Akihabara’s world-famous electronics district deliver a fast-paced metropolitan experience. Yet Tokyo also excels in offering tranquility amid its urban density.

Hidden Green Sanctuaries in a Mega-City

One of Tokyo’s most unexpected highlights is Todoroki Valley, a lush natural oasis located just minutes from central Shibuya. Here, visitors can escape the city’s intensity, enjoying cool air, dense greenery, and the gentle sound of flowing water—an experience rarely found in cities of this scale.

Meanwhile, Asakusa’s Senso-ji Temple, Tokyo’s oldest Buddhist temple, remains a timeless cultural landmark. Welcoming millions of visitors annually, it continues to symbolize the city’s enduring spiritual and historical identity.

World-Class Transportation Elevates the Travel Experience

Tokyo’s high ranking is further reinforced by its world-class integrated transportation system. Seamless connectivity from Haneda and Narita airports to the city center via high-speed trains and an extensive subway network makes navigating the city remarkably efficient for international travelers.

This accessibility, combined with Tokyo’s reputation for safety, cleanliness, and urban efficiency, has positioned the city as a benchmark for global tourism excellence.

A City That Still Holds Untold Secrets

Despite its popularity, Tokyo continues to surprise. Beyond the well-known attractions, the city offers budget-friendly transport strategies, lesser-known neighborhoods, and hidden local spots that remain absent from most mainstream travel guides.

With this latest recognition, Tokyo is no longer just a favorite destination—it has solidified its place as one of the world’s defining cities for travel in 2025. (AT Network)
