ASIATODAY.ID, SYDNEY — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has officially appointed Anthony Gill as the first Country Director of its new Solomon Islands Resident Mission in Honiara, marking a strategic move to strengthen ADB’s presence and influence across the Pacific.

Gill, assuming office today, will lead ADB’s operations in the Solomon Islands and oversee the implementation of the Pacific Approach 2026–2030, the bank’s medium-term country partnership strategy for the island nation.

“I am excited to build on ADB’s 52-year strong partnership with the Solomon Islands. The new resident mission will allow ADB to more effectively support Solomon Islands in achieving its development goals by improving connectivity through quality infrastructure, enhancing human capital, and promoting private sector growth,” said Gill on February 4, 2026.

ADB-supported initiatives focus on transport infrastructure, including road networks, the Honiara international port, and provincial wharves.

The bank also facilitates investments in health, renewable energy, urban water supply and sanitation, solid waste management, and supports economic reforms through policy-based operations.

An Australian national, Gill brings 30 years of development experience across multilateral and bilateral organizations.

During 18 years at ADB, he held multiple leadership roles, including extensive work in Cambodia and Indonesia, and served as country economist for several North Pacific nations. Prior to joining ADB, he held senior positions with the Australian Government.

As a leading multilateral development bank, ADB promotes inclusive, resilient, and sustainable growth across Asia and the Pacific.

Founded in 1966, ADB is owned by 69 members, including 50 regional countries, and works with partners to tackle complex challenges, transform lives, build quality infrastructure, and safeguard the planet. (AT Network)
