ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening trade and investment cooperation, with both countries seeking to accelerate strategic projects in food security, industrial downstreaming, and infrastructure development.
The commitment was underscored during a meeting between Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, and UAE Ambassador to Indonesia, Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri, accompanied by Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) Chief Strategy Officer, Thomas Couteaudier, in Jakarta on Wednesday.
“Indonesia welcomes the commitment of the UAE and global business players such as Louis Dreyfus Company to expand economic cooperation in the country. We encourage investments that support industrial downstreaming, food security, and the strengthening of national supply chains,” Airlangga said.
The minister emphasized that the UAE remains one of Indonesia’s most important strategic partners in the Middle East.
He noted that the implementation of the Indonesia–United Arab Emirates Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (I-UAE CEPA) is expected to further boost bilateral trade and investment flows.
Ambassador Al Dhaheri praised the steadily growing bilateral relationship and reaffirmed the UAE’s long-term interest in Southeast Asia’s largest economy.
“The UAE views Indonesia as a key partner in Southeast Asia and remains open to expanding collaboration across various economic sectors,” he said.
Beyond trade, the UAE is also stepping up its involvement in Indonesia’s food security agenda. Abu Dhabi Export (ADEX) has expressed its investment commitment with a primary focus on strengthening Indonesia’s food and agribusiness sectors.
The move reflects the UAE’s confidence in Indonesia’s agricultural potential and lays the groundwork for a long-term strategic partnership that delivers mutual economic benefits.
In the infrastructure sector, Abu Dhabi Ports (ADP) has signaled its readiness to support the development of airport infrastructure in Bali by conducting a feasibility study, a step that could enhance connectivity and support tourism-driven economic growth.
Airlangga also reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to supporting UAE businesses operating in the country, including Louis Dreyfus Company, which has maintained a presence in Indonesia for more than 25 years.
Both sides agreed on the importance of maintaining close bilateral communication to ensure the effective implementation of existing commitments and priority projects.
Indonesia and the UAE further pledged to strengthen investment synergies, provide greater business certainty for strategic investors, and accelerate key initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable economic growth and shared prosperity.
Also attending the meeting was Edi Prio Pambudi, Deputy for Economic Cooperation and Investment Coordination at Indonesia’s Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs.
The latest commitment highlights the UAE’s growing role as one of Indonesia’s most influential investment partners, particularly in sectors critical to the country’s long-term economic transformation, including food security, infrastructure, and industrial downstream development. (AT Network)
