ASIATODAY.ID, BANGKOK — Military tensions between Cambodia and Thailand have escalated into a deadly armed conflict along the border, leaving 12 people dead and dozens injured. The violence has raised serious concerns over regional stability in Southeast Asia.

Thailand’s Minister of Public Health, Somsak Thepsuthin, confirmed that artillery and rocket attacks launched by Cambodian forces killed 11 civilians and one Thai soldier. Among the dead was an 8-year-old boy.

An additional 24 civilians and 7 military personnel were wounded. Key civilian areas, including a gas station in Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province, were directly targeted by the bombardment.

The international community has urged both countries to exercise restraint. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim directly contacted both leaders, calling for an immediate ceasefire.

“Peace is the only solution. War will only bring suffering,” said Anwar in an official statement.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a statement urging Cambodia and Thailand to prioritize diplomacy through ASEAN’s established conflict-resolution mechanisms.
