ASIATODAY.ID, TOKYO — Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masato Kanda and Japan Financial Services Agency (JFSA) Commissioner Yutaka Ito signed a cooperation agreement today, October 22, 2025 to strengthen financial sector development in Asia and the Pacific.
The agreement focuses on helping the region’s emerging economies deploy more technology for financial inclusion, develop their capital markets, and embrace measures to build more resilient and stable financial systems.
“More open trade and stronger financial institutions and systems are needed to ensure regional economies benefit from sustainable growth, while building greater resilience to shocks,” said Mr. Kanda.
“Working together, we will connect global investors with Asia’s immense growth opportunities and create a virtuous cycle of demand and supply for long-term capital investment.”
The agreement was signed during the Asia Day event at Japan Weeks 2025 where Mr. Kanda delivered a keynote address on how Asia’s vast financial market potential can be tapped for the region’s prosperity. He stated that market-based financing accounts for only 14% of total debt for Asian companies and that trillions of dollars more could be unlocked, including through global institutional investors, but required collective efforts to build deep, resilient, and well-connected capital markets.
Mr. Kanda emphasized that ADB has a catalytic role in helping Asia seize these opportunities through its work strengthening financial institutions, deepening market infrastructure, and expanding sustainable finance that channels regional savings into regional growth.
