ASIATODAY.ID, BANYUWANGI – Indonesian Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono released the first export of three containers of canned tuna from Banyuwangi, East Java to Canada, Monday, September 30 2024.
“We are working all out so that this downstream industry can continue to be sustainable, because the fisheries market is a huge market, reaching US$ 170 billion per year,” said Minister Trenggono.
The three canned tuna containers are the product of the Banyuwangi-based fishing company Pacific Harvest Group. Exports will continue for the next six months with a total value of US$ 10 million.
Minister Trenggono said that the government would continue to improve the downstreaming of fishery products. To support this downstream activity, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries is focused on improving the quality of management in the upstream sector, as well as maintaining the sustainability of fisheries ecosystems through blue economy-based programs.
“Downstreaming will work well if the upstream runs well,” he said.
Apart from the American market, this fishing company, which employs more than 3,000 people, also sends its fishery products to a number of countries in the Middle East, Europe and Africa.
Per month, the company is able to send 100 to 200 containers of fishery products such as canned tuna and tuna loins overseas.
Pacific Harvest Group Marketing Director, Sherly Kho, acknowledged the large opportunities for the fisheries market on the American Continent.
For this reason, the party is trying to increase production by increasing the number of managed fish processing units, as well as ensuring the quality of the fishery products produced.
“Apart from being ready to compete, we also prioritize quality so that our fishery products can be accepted by the global market. “On the other hand, we also apply competitive prices,” he explained. (AT Network)
