ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – A shocking incident erupted at PT Sultan Rafli Mandiri (PT SRM) gold mine in Ketapang, West Kalimantan over the past weekend. 15 Chinese nationals allegedly attacked Indonesian military personnel (TNI) and damaged company vehicles, causing panic across the mining site.
The confrontation reportedly began after several foreigners were spotted operating a drone, which triggered a clash with security personnel and TNI soldiers who were conducting a training exercise at the site.
Timeline of the Incident
According to PT SRM’s Chief Security, Imran Kurniawan, the commotion started around 3:30 PM local time when security personnel noticed drone activity near the company premises. Ten minutes later, four Chinese nationals were seen flying the drone close to the main gate.
“When our security team and five TNI members approached them, 11 more Chinese nationals suddenly arrived, armed with knives, airsoft guns, and stun devices,” Imran explained.
The attackers assaulted the military personnel and security guards. Outnumbered, the security team had to retreat to avoid further confrontation. The five TNI soldiers involved were part of a Basic Unit Training (LDS) at the mining site at the time.
Property Damage and Evidence
During the attack, PT SRM reported one company vehicle and one motorcycle were damaged. Authorities recovered a knife as evidence, and local police have arrived at the scene to investigate.
PT SRM emphasized that security measures would be enhanced and coordinated closely with local law enforcement to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Situation Now Under Control
Tumbang Titi Police Chief, Iptu Made Adyana, confirmed that the situation is currently stable. As of Sunday night, the company has not yet filed an official police report, citing ongoing coordination with their legal team regarding next steps. (AT Network)
