ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – India is increasingly aggressive in expanding its business in ASEAN, especially in the health industry.
A number of Indian pharmaceutical companies are reportedly targeting Indonesia as an investment target in the region. They are interested in synergizing with Indonesia’s downstream policy.
To facilitate investment interest, the Indonesian Ministry of Health and the Indian Embassy will hold a Health Business Forum in Jakarta on February 27, 2024.
In a written statement on Monday, the Indian Embassy said that the forum aims to explore cooperation in health services in the pharmaceutical sector.
“There are many opportunities to foster a closer healthcare partnership as both countries have similar experiences and challenges, as developing countries with large populations, said the Indian Embassy.
It was also said that Indian pharmaceutical companies could help Indonesia reduce dependence on imports of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) which would enable increased quality medical services at affordable prices.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that his party wants to provide the best quality and affordable medicines for the Indonesian people.
He also said that his party had looked at various pharmaceutical models in various countries and concluded that India had the best model in providing quality and affordable medicines to the people.
“I have seen many models in various countries, and the Jan Aushadhi Kendra model from India is the best in the world in terms of providing quality, easily accessible and affordable medicines to the community,” said Budi.
Previously, Budi visited Jan Aushadhi Kendras in Gandhinagar-Gujarat on the sidelines of the G20 India Summit in August 2023.
Jan Aushadhi Kendra is a government-owned pharmacy established to provide affordable generic medicines to the public. These pharmaceutical centers aim to make quality medicines accessible to everyone, and ensure cost-effective healthcare solutions.
The forum will discuss the pharmaceutical regulatory and registration system in Indonesia, investment opportunities in the health services sector, the health ecosystem and transformation towards health resilience and others. (AT Network)
