ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – A fire accompanied by an explosion occurred at the PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) smelter or Manyar Smelter in the Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate (JIIPE) Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Gresik, East Java, on Monday, October 14 2024 evening .
The PT Freeport Indonesia smelter was just inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on September 23 2024.
“There was a fire at the PTFI smelter sulfuric acid factory in the Gresik SEZ, on Monday, October 14 2024 at 17.45 WIB,” said PTFI VP Corporate Communications, Katri Krisnati in a written statement.
Katri said that the Freeport emergency response team had handled the fire. There were no casualties in that incident.
So far, the cause of the fire is not yet known and it is still being investigated.
