ASIATODAY.ID, BEIJING – Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia accompanied the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto on a state visit to China, on 8-11 November 2024.
Witnessed by President Prabowo and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Minister Bahlil signed an MoU on Green Mineral Cooperation with Wang Wentao, Minister of Trade (MOFCOM) and an MoU on Mineral Resources Cooperation with Zheng Shanjie, Chair of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). These two MoUs are two of the 8 MoU deliverables signed in front of the Presidents of the two countries on Saturday, November 9 2024 evening local time at the Great Hall of the People.
“This MoU marks a new chapter in strategic cooperation between Indonesia and China. This collaboration will not only strengthen a sustainable mineral supply chain, but will also encourage significant investment in the development of clean energy in both countries,” said Bahlil shortly after signing at the event location.
Bahlil continued, this collaboration shows the seriousness of Indonesia and China in realizing the global commitment to accelerate the process of sustainable energy transition.
“Together we contribute to achieving global goals for a just and inclusive energy transition,” he continued.
NDRC and MOFCOM are two important Chinese government bodies that have the authority to approve outbound investments by companies from that country abroad.
The MoU on Green Mineral Cooperation with MOFCOM which will be signed aims to encourage the development of the “green” mineral industry from mining to downstreaming in Indonesia, which is in line with the commitment of both countries in overcoming climate change. The term “green” minerals refers to mineral products necessary for the development of green and low-carbon industries, as well as the environmentally friendly and sustainable exploration, development and utilization of mineral resources at all stages.
“For Indonesia, this could open up great opportunities to develop a green mineral industry with high added value. In the future, green minerals will be the key to developing clean energy as directed by President Prabowo,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, the MoU in the Mineral Sector with the NDRC focuses on the development and utilization of minerals that are urgently needed in modern industry, opening up opportunities for both parties to explore investment and cooperation opportunities in the mineral resources sector from mining to downstream as well as strengthening a safe mineral resource supply chain. and sustainable.
Through this collaboration, the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will play an important role in strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the mineral sector, and is expected to increase investment in the Indonesian mineral sector.
For information, Indonesia and China themselves have a regular biennial bilateral forum, namely the Indonesia-China Energy Forum (ICEF). The 7th ICEF was just held in Bali on September 3 2024, chaired by the Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Administrator of the National Energy Agency (NEA). The meeting re-emphasized the commitment of the two countries to strengthen cooperation in the fields of development of conventional and non-conventional oil and gas, coal, electricity and clean energy.
Apart from that, Indonesia also offers various investment opportunities in the oil and gas, coal, electricity and new renewable energy sub-sectors.
