ASIATODAY.ID, BANGKOK – Indonesia and Thailand have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the health sector, marking a renewed commitment to bilateral cooperation and the strengthening of global health resilience. The agreement was signed during the official visit of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, to Thailand, May 19, 2025.
The MoU signing ceremony took place at the Government House in Bangkok, witnessed by President Prabowo and Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The agreement, titled Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ministry of Public Health of the Kingdom of Thailand on Health Cooperation, reflects the shared vision of both countries in addressing cross-border health challenges.
The document was signed by Indonesia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, and Thailand’s Minister of Public Health, Somsak Thepsuthin, signaling a mutual commitment to enhancing national health systems and deepening international collaboration.
In a joint press conference, President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the strategic importance of the health cooperation, especially in building joint capacity to respond to future global health crises, such as potential pandemics.
“We have just witnessed the signing of a health cooperation MoU aimed at enhancing our collaboration and increasing our joint capacity. This is crucial in facing the possibility of new pandemics emerging in the future,” President Prabowo stated.
President Prabowo also affirmed Indonesia’s commitment to advancing development cooperation through a strategic partnership between Indonesian Aid and the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA).
Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra welcomed the agreement and expressed Thailand’s readiness to strengthen its partnership with Indonesia in health, education, and social development sectors.
“We are committed to expanding cooperation in education, healthcare, and social welfare. As members of the Global Health Group, Thailand and Indonesia will continue to work together under international cooperation frameworks,” said Prime Minister Paetongtarn.
The signing of this Indonesia–Thailand health MoU marks a significant milestone in bilateral relations, paving the way for more structured institutional collaboration. The agreement aims to bolster human resources in healthcare, promote medical technology exchange, and facilitate knowledge-sharing at both regional and global levels.
