ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia plays a major role in the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Vaccine Regulation Project program in the Asia Pacific Region.
The program aims to gain access to safe, efficacious and quality vaccine products.
The ADB Vaccine Regulation Project was initiated by the Duke-NUS Center of Regulatory Excellence (CoRE) in collaboration with the Health Sector Group of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
This program focuses on strengthening the regulatory system and regulatory factors in vaccine manufacturing which is carried out through a series of scientific activities and policies implemented throughout the product cycle.
Indonesian Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin said the pharmaceutical regulatory system plays an important role in providing faster services to the public. The assessment, licensing, control and monitoring of medicines is a major challenge for national governance.
This is because the rapid development of the pharmaceutical industry has resulted in an increase in the number of new products, complex quality problems and new technical problems.
“We must take breakthrough steps to achieve vaccine resilience, including collaborating, connecting, integrating and increasing all resources in vaccine development, production and delivery capacity,” said Minister Budi at a stakeholder meeting between Indonesian vaccine producers and Duke-NUS at the Westin Hotel, Jakarta, Friday, January 26 2024.
Executive Director of the Center of Regulatory Excellence (CoRE) at the Duke-National University of Singapore Medical School (Duke-NUS) Prof. John CW Lim appreciated Indonesia’s efforts to ensure the sustainability of the vaccine ecosystem through Volare.
“We are back to meet with stakeholders in the vaccine manufacturing sector in Indonesia to better understand the opportunities and challenges in developing vaccine manufacturing and strengthening the regulatory system in Indonesia,” he said.
Strengthen the Pharmaceutical Regulatory System
CoRE’s mission is to actively promote regulatory excellence through increased regulatory capacity and policy innovation for health products and health systems in Asia Pacific and at the global level.
“I want to reiterate how pleased we are to be back in Jakarta to build on existing partnerships and explore new collaborations to strengthen advanced regulatory systems and to promote health policy innovation,” he said.
Lim believes it is very important to establish sustainable and practical ways of advancing health system strategies and policies. This is good for preparing yourself for future health crises.
Focus on Strengthening Regulations
Director Human and Social Development Sector Office Sectors Group (SG) Asian Development Bank Dr. Patrick L. Osewe said that in vaccine-related production, his party must focus on strengthening regulations to achieve a level of independence.
Therefore, ADB invested in establishing a regional vaccine advisory group, consisting of 12 regulators.
“We realize that this is the current state of our economy.
“We don’t want to experience what we experienced before during the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are here to work together with Indonesia,” said Dr. Patrick. (AT Network)
