ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, said that Indonesia is ready to export green electricity sourced from renewable energy to Singapore in the amount of 2-3 gigawatts.
“We have carried out negotiations with the Singapore Government and the international trade cooperation agreement has been signed. “The initial stage is 2 gigawatts, but it could grow,” said Luhut at the 2024 Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) in Jakarta, Thursday, September 5 2024.
According to Luhut, the green electricity sales transaction to Singapore has taken into account domestic electrification needs, so it does not burden national electricity.
“We’ll see what’s best. We also have to look at domestic needs. Don’t export everything. Then we won’t have any,” said Luhut.
Luhut revealed that the value of this collaboration reached tens of billions of US dollars. “With the industry it could be several tens of billions of US dollars. That’s huge,” said Luhut.
Meanwhile, Luhut in the discussion session said that the export of green electricity produced by Indonesia, which was initially 2 gigawatts, could be expanded to 3 gigawatts, considering that Indonesia has abundant renewable energy sources.
The same thing was emphasized by the Deputy for Infrastructure and Transportation Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Rachmat Kaimuddin, who stated that the total green electricity that will be exported to Singapore is 2 gigawatts and an additional 1.4 gigawatts of alternating current (AC) electricity.
So far, the State Electricity Company (PLN) has published the Accelerated Application of Renewable Energy (ARED) program, which aims to have 480 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2060.
Through Indonesia’s partnership with Singapore, the solar photovoltaic industry and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) have been developed, which allows Indonesia to export green electricity to Singapore, which is produced by solar panels produced in Indonesia. (ATN)
