ASIATODAY.ID, BANDUNG — Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) and CT Group Corporation Vietnam have established a strategic technology alliance to accelerate innovation in artificial intelligence (AI), unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), semiconductors, batteries, and other advanced technologies that could shape ASEAN’s future competitiveness.
The partnership was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), connecting ITB’s research capabilities with CT Group’s industrial ecosystem to develop technology solutions with economic and societal impact.
The collaboration comes as Southeast Asian countries intensify efforts to strengthen domestic technology capabilities amid growing global competition in AI, semiconductor supply chains, advanced manufacturing, and clean energy technologies.
ITB Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara said the partnership marks an important step in expanding international cooperation and strengthening ASEAN’s innovation capacity.
“This collaboration opens major opportunities to develop strategic technologies that will benefit Indonesia and Vietnam while enhancing ASEAN’s position in the global technology landscape,” he said.
A key focus of the partnership is the development of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology and the emerging Low-Altitude Economy (LAE) sector, which is expected to support future applications in smart logistics, urban mobility, infrastructure monitoring, and digital services.
The cooperation will also cover artificial intelligence, digital twin technology, geospatial systems, computer vision, robotics, semiconductor development, carbon technology, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing.
Prof. Tatacipta highlighted Indonesia’s strategic advantage through its critical mineral resources, including nickel, manganese, and cobalt, which play an important role in next-generation battery development.
“By combining ITB’s research strength with CT Group’s industrial experience, we aim to create innovations that generate greater added value for Indonesia and strengthen ASEAN’s technological competitiveness,” he said.
Chairman of CT Group Corporation Vietnam Tran Kim Chung said ASEAN must build stronger technological capabilities through regional cooperation.
“ASEAN has enormous economic potential. To compete globally, we need to develop technologies that become the foundation for the future,” he said.
Under the agreement, ITB and CT Group will collaborate on joint research and development, technology roadmaps, feasibility studies, technology validation, prototype development, technology transfer, licensing, and commercialization opportunities.
The partnership will also support the development of innovation hubs, research laboratories, business incubators, and technology-based startups.
In education and talent development, the cooperation will include executive education programs, short courses, professional certification, international conferences, industrial internships, industry-based projects, scholarships, and career opportunities for ITB students.
CT Group will contribute through industrial expertise, access to technology ecosystems, testing facilities, mentorship, investment opportunities, and support for commercializing research outcomes.
The ITB–CT Group alliance reflects ASEAN’s broader ambition to develop a stronger regional technology ecosystem and compete in strategic industries shaping the global economy.
Through cooperation in AI, semiconductors, advanced materials, clean energy, and digital transformation, the partnership is expected to strengthen Indonesia and Vietnam’s role in building ASEAN’s next generation of technological innovation. (AT Network)
