ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Ties between Jakarta and the city of Nonsan in South Korea have entered a new and increasingly dynamic chapter.
On Thursday, December 4, 2025, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung officially welcomed Nonsan Mayor Baek Sung Hyun and his delegation at Jakarta City Hall. The meeting marked an important moment in strengthening bilateral cooperation while finalizing preparations for the 2026 Nonsan Strawberry Festival, which is expected to be bigger, more creative, and internationally visible.
Governor Pramono emphasized that the Jakarta–Nonsan partnership has evolved far beyond cultural exchange. The annual festival has now become a strategic platform for expanding economic, technological, and urban innovation collaboration.
“The Nonsan Strawberry Festival is not only a showcase for premium products but also a driver of economic and cultural cooperation between our two cities. Jakarta is fully committed to supporting the 2026 festival,” Pramono said.
Jakarta, One of the World’s Largest Strawberry Markets
The 2026 festival—scheduled for February—will be the third time it is held in Jakarta. With market demand rising significantly, Governor Pramono expressed confidence that next year’s event will deliver even greater economic impact.
“Jakarta is one of the world’s largest strawberry markets. We believe the upcoming festival will be even more successful and bring broad benefits to the people of Jakarta and Nonsan,” he noted.
According to the Jakarta Provincial Government, the capital could absorb over 20 tons of premium strawberries during the festival period.
Nonsan to Bring Its Finest Strawberries to Jakarta
Mayor Baek stated that his visit aims to strengthen government-to-government collaboration and ensure that the 2026 festival is more vibrant, diverse, and internationally competitive.
“Nonsan is recognized as a leading global producer of high-quality strawberries thanks to our soil, climate, and advanced agricultural technology. Next year, we will bring our best harvests to Jakarta,” Baek said.
Beyond festival coordination, Baek also invited Indonesians to attend the Nonsan International Expo 2027, a 24-day global exhibition to be held between February and March in Nonsan, South Korea.
Jakarta and Nonsan Expand Cooperation Across Multiple Sectors
Both leaders also explored new areas of collaboration that continue to grow between the two cities. The Jakarta Provincial Government opened discussions on cooperation in:
Investment and development of cold chain systems to strengthen fresh-produce logistics and exports
Agro-innovation, smart farming, and advanced urban agriculture
R&D for food diversification, including premium strawberry-based desserts, beverages, and processed products
Partnerships between Jakarta’s regional enterprises (BUMD) and Korean businesses in distribution and marketing
Education and health cooperation through Jakarta’s Human Resources Development Board (BPSDM)
Mayor Baek concluded the meeting with a warm message of appreciation:
“We sincerely appreciate the warm hospitality in Jakarta—a city with a global vision. We hope Jakarta–Nonsan relations will continue to strengthen and benefit both cities.”
