ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – President Prabowo Subianto has asserted that the ongoing unrest across several regions in Indonesia is no longer merely linked to public demonstrations but has shown indications of treason and terrorism.

Speaking at a press conference at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Sunday, August 31, 2025, President Prabowo emphasized that while the people’s aspirations must be respected, acts of violence and lawlessness that threaten national stability will not be tolerated.

“Once again, genuine aspirations expressed peacefully must be respected. The right to assemble peacefully must be protected. However, we cannot deny that signs of unlawful actions are beginning to emerge, including indications of treason and terrorism,” Prabowo stated.

Firm Orders for the Military and Police

President Prabowo issued firm instructions to the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) to take decisive action against all forms of law violations. He underscored that the destruction of public facilities, looting of private property, and disturbances to economic centers must be dealt with under the law.

“I order the police and the TNI to take the firmest possible measures against any destruction of public facilities, looting of private homes, or disruption of economic centers,” he said.

Prabowo further highlighted the importance of unity among state institutions in safeguarding national security. Cross-agency coordination will also be strengthened, with the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) tasked with monitoring potential threats and reporting directly to the President.

Peaceful Aspirations Will Be Heard

Despite his stern directives, President Prabowo reassured the public that the government remains open to hearing the people’s voices when conveyed peacefully.

“To all citizens, please continue to deliver genuine aspirations in a peaceful manner. We guarantee they will be heard, noted, and followed up,” he added.

National Stability as the Key to Economic Recovery

In a cabinet meeting alongside Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, President Prabowo stressed that national stability is the foundation for the country’s economic revival. He instructed central and regional governments to work hand in hand in maintaining order so that development efforts can proceed without disruption.

Prabowo also directed the Commander of the TNI and the National Police Chief to coordinate with the Attorney General in expediting law enforcement, ensuring that any attempts of treason or terrorism are prevented at the earliest stage.

“President Prabowo will always stand with the people in defending the nation’s interests, supported by the TNI, Polri, and all elements of society,” said Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, who delivered the President’s remarks after the cabinet meeting. (AT Network)
