ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – AirNav Indonesia reported that 7 airports in the Sulawesi region were closed as a result of the eruption of Mount Ruang.
AirNav Indonesia Corporate Secretary Hermana Soegijantoro said the decision was taken referring to information from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) regarding the eruption of Mount Ruang with an observed eruption height of +/- 2000 m and spreading to the north.
“AirNav Indonesia has issued a NOTAM regarding the temporary closure of 7 airports around the Sulawesi region,” he said in a press release, Tuesday, April 30 2024.
He said the airports affected include Gorontalo Airport closed from 30 April 13.17 WITA until 1 May 2024 at 12.00 WITA, SIAU/Sitaro Airport closed from 30 April 10.49 WITA until 1 May 2024 at 12.00 WITA, and Bolaang Mongondow Airport closed since 30 April 10.48 WITA to May 1 2024 at 12.00 WITA.
Apart from that, Tahuna Airport is closed from 30 April 10.42 WITA until 1 May 2024 at 12.00 WITA, Pohuwato Airport is closed from 30 April 12.02 WITA until 1 May 2024 at 12.00 WITA, and Manado’s Sam Ratulangi Airport has had its closure extended from 30 April at 11.13 WITA until 1 May 2024 at 12.00 WITA. Finally, Pogogul Airport will be closed from April 30 at 15.28 WITA until May 1 2024 at 18.00 WITA.
He explained that compiled from temporary data, a total of 50 flights were affected at these 7 airports, namely 25 departures and 25 arrivals, with a total of around 3,842 passengers.
