ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) team conducted a review of the semiconductor ecosystem in Indonesia. This is part of the OECD accession process for Indonesia’s membership.
“The OECD team will help the Government to identify opportunities and challenges in Indonesia in developing the semiconductor ecosystem. “This mission visit aims to gain a deeper understanding of the Indonesian semiconductor ecosystem by meeting with various government institutions involved in semiconductor policy making and other stakeholders such as industry players, associations, labor organizations and civil society,” said the Deputy for Economic Cooperation. The OECD team was led by Senior Economist from the Directorate of Science, Technology and Innovation Guy Lalanne along with three other economists. The issues discussed at the meeting session were mostly related to policy, data confirmation, and identification of opportunities and challenges for the development of the semiconductor industry in Indonesia.
The visit is part of a fact-finding mission by the OECD to review Indonesia’s semiconductor ecosystem. During this mission the OECD met with various parties involved in semiconductor policy making, and other stakeholders. The meeting, which was held for four days in Jakarta, was also attended by representatives of Ministries and Institutions, associations, industry players and educational institutions.
“Indonesia is really serious about accelerating the development of the semiconductor ecosystem, from upstream to downstream. “To achieve this vision, Indonesia is ready to strengthen the 4 supporting pillars of industry, namely infrastructure, skills/human resources, supply chains and supporting environment,” said Special Staff of the Coordinating Minister for the Indonesian Economy, Prof. Hammam Riza who is also on the Expert Team in the Semiconductor Task Force.
The series of fact-finding mission activities closed with a field visit to Batam, Riau Islands, to see the potential of the area as a location for developing the semiconductor industry. The OECD team will still carry out an in-depth analysis of the Indonesian semiconductor ecosystem over the next 6 months. (ATN)
