Pertamina Strikes New Oil Well at Adera with Flow Potential of 3,442 BOPD

ASIATODAY.ID, PRABUMULIH — Indonesia’s upstream energy sector opened 2026 on a strong note as PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Adera Field announced the discovery of a new oil well with an initial flow potential of up to 3,442 barrels of oil per day (BOPD), reinforcing prospects for higher national production.

The result was recorded during a two-hour flow test conducted on December 30, 2025, between 14:30 and 16:30 local time. The test duration is considered sufficient to represent stable natural flow conditions, providing a reliable early indication of the well’s performance.

The initial flow test was designed to measure the well’s maximum natural deliverability without artificial lift.

Pertamina emphasized that the 3,442 BOPD figure does not represent long-term daily production, but serves as a benchmark for evaluating well productivity and reservoir characteristics.

Sustainable Production and Optimal Recovery

Following the completion of the well clean-up phase, PEP Adera Field proceeded with a multi-rate flow test to determine the optimal production rate, gas-oil ratio (GOR), and water content (water cut).

These test results form the basis of good reservoir management practices, aimed at maintaining production sustainability while maximizing oil recovery.

“Under certain operating conditions, the ABB-143 (U1) well is expected to contribute around 458 barrels of oil per day, with an estimated Ultimate Recovery (EUR) of approximately 750,000 barrels of oil, based on comparisons with reference wells,” said Djudjuwanto, General Manager of Pertamina EP Zone 4 quoted on Saturday, January 10, 2026.

Reference wells are producing wells within the same area and geological formation, used as benchmarks to estimate the potential of newly discovered wells.

Breakthrough Enabled by 3D Seismic Integration

According to Djudjuwanto, the discovery is the result of an advanced integration of 3D seismic data from the Abab survey acquired in 2023, developed through intensive studies by PEP Adera Field’s Geology, Geophysics, Reservoir, and Production (GGRP) team.

Enhanced seismic interpretation allowed the team to more accurately map reservoir distribution and orientation, significantly increasing drilling success rates.

The new discovery is expected to provide a strategic boost to Adera Field’s 2026 production, while supporting the government’s ambition to achieve a national oil lifting target of one million barrels per day.

“Technological innovation and the application of new approaches continue to drive Pertamina EP’s performance in strengthening Indonesia’s energy security,” Djudjuwanto said.

Capital Investment Supports Energy Self-Sufficiency

Meanwhile, Muhammad Baron, Vice President of Corporate Communication at Pertamina, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to accelerating national energy self-sufficiency in line with the government’s Asta Cita development agenda.

“Pertamina has allocated substantial capital expenditure (capex) to the upstream sector to enable large-scale and innovative drilling programs, delivering a tangible impact on new discoveries and increased national oil and gas production,” Baron stated.

With this latest discovery, Pertamina EP further solidifies its role as a key driver of Indonesia’s energy resilience, setting a positive tone for the upstream oil and gas industry at the outset of 2026. (AT Network)
