ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) or Pelindo through its subholding, PT Pelindo Jasa Maritim (SPJM) is committed to realizing green shipping by providing services in the marine sector, equipment, dredging solutions, shipyards and utility services that focus on reducing emissions carbon in maritime transportation.
“Green shipping in Indonesia continues within Pelindo,” said the President Director of PT Pelindo Jasa Maritim, Prasetyadi, quoted Wednesday, February 1 2024.
Green shipping is a process to reduce emissions produced by lower vessel activities. Meanwhile, a green ship is a ship that applies technology aimed at reducing emissions and increasing energy efficiency simultaneously.
According to Prasetyadi, Pelindo has prepared and planned sustainable ports for the next 5 years. This plan will later be carried out jointly within the Pelindo Group where targets have been created that can be achieved both in the next 10 years and a long-term implementation map.
“We are studying how sustainable initiatives are carried out by the world’s leading ports, which can also be carried out at every port we manage,” said Prasetyadi.
Another step taken by Pelindo is the electrification or de-dieselization of equipment. The conversion of fossil-based fuels to environmentally friendly energy sources continues to be increased.
“SPJM will realize an environmentally friendly port or what we also call a green port through electrification of the equipment and ships we own,” said Prasetyadi.
“To date, electrification at 125 ports managed by Pelindo has reached 41 to 59 percent. “Or if you look at the number of loading and unloading equipment, there are around 310, 126 of which have been electrified and 184 of which are still diesel-based,” explained Prasetyadi.
To reduce the use of fossil fuels when ships are docked, he said, SPJM has provided shore connections or onshore power supplies at several terminals which function as chargers (suppliers) of electrical power to ships when they are docked at the dock.
“Finally, ship waste management services to support an environmentally friendly terminal have also been prepared,” said Prasetyadi. (AT Network)
