ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The city of Jakarta will become a global business and financial center after the government of the Republic of Indonesia moved to the capital city of the archipelago (IKN).

The reason is, Jakarta is still considered attractive for development.

“The city of Jakarta will become a business and financial center. We will have a new financial superhub,” said Head of the Archipelago Capital Authority (OIKN) Bambang Susantono, quoted on Sunday, February 18 2024.

Bambang said that this new financial superhub had been carried out by Kazakhstan with Astana, the new capital after Almaty. Thus, Indonesia and Kazakhstan signed a memorandum of understanding and made IKN and Astana sister cities.

Moving the capital city to IKN will create a mutually strengthening relationship for the two cities, namely Jakarta will become a business and financial center, while IKN will be a smart and inclusive city. Jakarta remains an attractive magnet for continued development and has high economic value.

On the other hand, economic growth outside Java is increasingly developing and evenly distributed.

“We will have a superhub economy outside Jakarta,” said Bambang.

Meanwhile, Regional Director I of the Ministry of National Development Planning, Abdul Malik, said that Jakarta’s role became very important after the country’s capital moved to IKN. Because Jakarta has become the second largest metropolitan area in the world after Tokyo.

Jakarta and buffer areas such as Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi will become the largest agglomeration areas in the world.

“Many experts predict that the direction will be two megapolitan systems, namely Jakarta and the Bandung basin. Those will be the two main driving forces,” said Abdul.

Several private investors and State-Owned Enterprises have also started building five-star hotels, warehousing and logistics areas, the Nusantara Warehouse and the Nusantara Logistic Hub. (ATN)
