ASIATODAY.ID, WASHINGTON – The United States has launched large-scale military “readiness” drills across the Middle East as President Donald Trump confirms the deployment of an additional naval armada toward Iran — signaling Washington’s growing readiness for open military confrontation.
US Air Forces Central (AFCENT) announced on Tuesday the start of a multi-day readiness exercise aimed at demonstrating the rapid deployment and sustainment of US combat airpower across the region.
The drills are designed to test the dispersal of personnel and aircraft to undisclosed “contingency locations” and to integrate command-and-control operations with unnamed “partner nations.”
“This is about maintaining combat-ready Airmen and the disciplined execution required to ensure airpower is available whenever and wherever it is needed,” said AFCENT Commander Lieutenant General Derek France on January 27, 2026.
The air drills coincide with a significant naval buildup.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, escorted by guided-missile destroyers, has entered the Middle East theater.
In addition, Washington has deployed extra F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jets, Patriot missile batteries, and THAAD air defense systems, reinforcing what US officials describe as a deterrence posture — but which analysts increasingly view as active war preparation.
President Trump escalated the rhetoric during a public address.
“There’s another beautiful armada floating beautifully towards Iran right now,” Trump said, adding that he hopes Tehran will “make a deal.”
The president previously claimed that the naval force currently positioned near Iran is larger than the armada used in US operations targeting Venezuela.
The military escalation follows weeks of extreme tension. According to media reports, Trump recently came close to ordering strikes to “punish” Iran over its violent crackdown on widespread anti-government protests triggered by economic collapse.
A Gulf official quoted by Middle East Eye said Washington is now considering precision strikes against high-value Iranian officials and senior military commanders, underscoring how close the crisis may be to crossing the threshold into direct conflict.
Tehran has responded with defiant warnings. Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani stated that Iran is “fully prepared” for any potential war and warned that any US attack would provoke a “swift and comprehensive” response.
Iranian military commanders have echoed the message, saying their forces have their “finger on the trigger.”
The crisis is rooted in nationwide protests across Iran driven by prolonged economic collapse. Iranian authorities claim approximately 3,000 people were killed during the unrest and accuse the United States and Israel of exploiting the turmoil to justify foreign military intervention.
With US war drills intensifying, naval forces converging, and rhetoric hardening on both sides, the Middle East is once again edging toward a dangerous miscalculation — one with potentially global consequences. (AT Network)
