ASIATODAY.ID, HANOI – The Department of Asian African Markets under the Ministry of Industry and Trade sent a warning about signs of fraud related to shipments of goods imported from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The warning, as reported by VNA, Thursday, came after the department received an email from a Vietnamese company requesting support regarding a shipment imported from the UAE with signs of fraud.
The company said that in the first two months of this year, it has signed three contracts with partners in the UAE to purchase a total of 1,000 tonnes of PET worth a total of US$665,500 delivered at Hi Phòng Port.
As of March 13, the company had made payments to its UAE partners worth US$526,257 for 25 containers. However, when checking the containers, the company found that the volume of goods in each container was actually only equivalent to 15-20 percent of the announced volume.
The inspection process is under the supervision of individual inspection companies and local Customs Departments.
The company has contacted its UAE partners regarding the issue, but has not received a positive response.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade asked the Vietnam Trade Office in the UAE to send notifications to the authorities and at the same time cooperate directly with the company’s partners in the UAE.
In addition, the ministry asked the bank carrying out the transaction to temporarily block the transaction to ensure legal benefits for the company.
On April 11, Vietnamese companies had received full payment of their advances to UAE partners.
In order to prevent similar cases, the Department of Asian African Markets urges companies to be careful in trading with partners in West Asian countries, especially contracts with large values.
It is important to study partners carefully before signing a contract, the department said. (VNA/ANT)
