ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia rejected the cassation request for an air pollution lawsuit filed by the Indonesian Government, in this case President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and the Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya.
“Decision: reject appeals I and II,” as stated on the Supreme Court clerk’s website, quoted Friday, November 16 2023).
In this way, the Supreme Court judges still consider the government guilty of fulfilling the right to a clean and healthy environment in the DKI Jakarta area.
Meanwhile, this cassation case is registered with number: 2560 K/PDT/2023. Sitting as Chair of the Panel of Judges is Takdir Rahmadi with one member Panji Widagdo and Lucas Prakoso as two members.
The cassation decision on Monday, November 13 2023 also has a replacement registrar, namely Arief Sapto Nugroho.
Meanwhile, the defendant in the cassation is Melanie Soebono. He previously won at the first instance or the Central Jakarta District Court in September 2021.
In short, the panel of judges at the Central Jakarta District Court decided that the President of the Republic of Indonesia, the Minister of the Environment, the Minister of Home Affairs, the Minister of Health and the Governor of DKI Jakarta at that time, Anies Baswedan, were deemed to have violated the law regarding air pollution in the DKI Jakarta area.
For information, in December 2022 the government, through Adam Hasan Saputra, submitted a cassation request until it was finally rejected on Friday, November 16 2023.
Jakarta’s Air Quality Ranks 8th Worst in the World

As Jakarta’s air quality reaches the orange indicator, sensitive people are advised to wear masks when outdoors, close windows to avoid dirty air from outside, and avoid outdoor sports activities. Jakarta residents are also advised to turn on indoor air filters so that the incoming air does not harm their health.
