ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Airlangga Hartarto received a visit from the Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Sandeep Chakravorty, on Thursday, November 23 2023.

The visit was a follow-up to the bilateral meeting between Indonesia and India on the sidelines of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) meeting on November 14 2023 in San Francisco, United States and discussed several issues related to trade and investment.

Airlangga welcomed Sandeep’s arrival to discuss bilateral economic relations between Indonesia and India. As is known, India is an important trading partner as the 4th largest export destination country for Indonesia.

In this meeting, Ambassador Sandeep expressed India’s desire to invest in the pharmaceutical and health sectors in concrete form, namely hospital construction projects. The construction of the hospital will be carried out by one of the groups of companies managing Indonesian Hospitals with the Apollo Hospital Group from India which is planned to be built in a Special Economic Zone.

Ambassador Sandeep also said that India is ready to become a supplier to meet rice needs in accordance with requests from the Indonesian Government. Then, Ambassador Sandeep conveyed India’s difficulties in exporting beef to Indonesia due to limited quotas.

The Indonesian government itself has set beef import quotas in accordance with domestic meat consumption needs.

“We are talking about demand, because the buyers are the public. “It depends on the market, if demand increases it will be considered to increase,” said Coordinating Minister Airlangga.

Apart from that, India also hopes that investment in automotive products such as motorbikes and tires will be accepted in Indonesia, and hopes that Indonesia can minimize non-tariff barriers for Indian products in the Indonesian market.

At the end of the discussion, Ambassador Sandeep said that Indian companies are currently trying to obtain halal certification. The Indonesian government through the Halal Product Guarantee Organizing Agency (BPJPH) has signed an agreement to accelerate the completion of assessments by Foreign Halal Institutions from both India and other countries for recognition and acceptance of halal certificates.
