ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The 2nd ASEAN Policy Dialogue (APD) meeting was held at the ASEAN Secretariat, Jakarta, 6 December 2023.
Track 1.5 diplomacy features government and non-government entities from the Policy Strategy Agency or similar institutions, as well as think tanks and universities from ASEAN member countries.
“We are holding this forum not only to discuss the vision for the future, but also to sow the seeds of transformation that will shape the destiny of Southeast Asia in the next few years,” said Dr. Yayan G. H. Mulyana, Head of the Foreign Policy Strategy Agency, Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the opening session.
“ASEAN needs to set priorities and continue to develop unity and solidarity among ASEAN member countries,” he said.
This activity focuses on discussing and sharpening the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 (ACV2045) which was agreed upon at the 43rd ASEAN Summit on September 5 2023 and will be officially adopted in 2025.
The 2nd APD Forum was held with the aim of discussing research-based and projective input, including recommendations for the ACV2045 strategic plan.
Ambassador Dian Triansyah Djani, Special Staff for Strengthening Priority Programs, Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted future megatrends such as geopolitical and geoeconomic dynamics, climate change, rapid technological change, competition for resources, energy and food security, and the financial landscape which changes.
Ambassador Djani emphasized “ACV2045 must be fit-for-purpose and be a regional commitment to make ASEAN a locomotive for peace, stability and prosperity”.
The 2nd APD Forum discussed the elements of ACV2045, namely the political-security, economic and socio-cultural pillars, as well as connectivity and institutional strengthening.
The participants discussed efforts to overcome challenges in the region, issues that are inter-pillar of ASEAN, digitalization, especially aspects of infrastructure and human resource development, as well as increasing cooperation between ASEAN member countries and ASEAN’s external partners.
The 2nd APD meeting was held in collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA). (AT Network)
