ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The East Java Provincial Government continues to race to accelerate the strengthening of the halal ecosystem by collaborating with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, said that this collaboration with IsDB was carried out through a reverse linkage program which includes training, exchange of knowledge, expertise, technology and human resources.

Specifically, this collaboration is carried out to improve the quality standards of halal products for Small and Medium Enterprises, training slaughterers according to Islamic and medical law, as well as marketing East Java halal products to member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and meeting the needs of Hajj pilgrims and Umrah.

“This is an ongoing effort to strengthen and accelerate the development of the halal ecosystem in East Java,” said Khofifah Indar Parawansa, in her statement, Tuesday, January 9 2024.

This collaboration is also an effort to develop globally recognized halal products for the global market.

“God willing, this program will bring great benefits to the people of East Java, especially those in the halal industry and our Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises,” he said.

Khofifah explained that through this collaboration, support will be provided in the form of knowledge, expertise and investment potential facilitated by Serunai Commerce at the bilateral level. Then there are also three interventions divided into three stages.

The first stage, reverse linkage intervention as a facilitator in 2024. The second stage, short term plan (2024-2025) East Java is collaborating with Serunai Commerce to increase capacity and have the potential to develop joint ventures.

“After East Java reaches capacity, Serunai Commerce will provide access to platforms that will connect to the halal supply chain,” said Khofifah.

Entering the third stage, there are medium and long term plans, namely reverse linkage intervention as a facilitator and as a provider of catalytic funding.

East Java and Serunai Commerce will collaborate with IsDB as a provider of knowledge, expertise, technology and financing to help other OIC countries through reverse linkage in the halal industry.

Khofifah hopes that in the future this collaboration can have an impact on existing programs in East Java, because currently there is a halal slaughterer as well as a halal product processing assistant and the establishment of a halal ecosystem area.

Khofifah is optimistic that this collaboration will soon be realized, considering the development of sharia economics which is currently growing, especially community-based sharia economics, namely Islamic boarding schools.

“In East Java there are around 992,889 santri who are currently taking elementary education or madrasah, tsanawiyah, aliyah as well as those at ma’had aly, and this has great potential if the halal ecosystem continues to be developed in East Java,” he explained. (AT Network)
