ASIATODAY.ID, DUBAI – In order to form a consortium with the aim of developing the ICE IV Sea Cable Communication System (SKKL) Project, e&, Telecom Egypt, Telin as a subsidiary of Telkom, and large operators from India signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Through this MoU, the Data Center (DC) to DC system will provide a unique route connecting the Intra Asia region to India and the Middle East.
Spanning 11,000 km, the new system will use the latest open cable technology and subsea ROADMs to connect Indonesia and Singapore to India, Oman, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.
The ICE IV project will adopt a completely new route, via the Sunda Strait and become the first international cable to land in Kochi, India in decades, offering a resilient alternative route and a new international gateway.
The land extensions under consideration also include connections between the Middle East and Egypt, as well as between Kochi and Chennai, which makes the ICE IV Project unique. The ICE IV project is targeted to be ready for operation in the fourth quarter of 2027.
In recent years, surging demand, along with inventory shortages, has allowed the global bandwidth market to expand and become a key driver for the construction of new SKKLs.
As SKKL connectivity evolves, PoP to PoP designs set a new standard, with these architectures better serving the needs of content providers and big data consumers.
The ICE IV project will adopt these principles to provide seamless connectivity, large bandwidth, and diverse network security.
A major milestone for this project occurred at the prestigious Capacity Middle East event where MoUs were signed by top management from four leading companies; Nabil Baccouche – Group Chief Carrier & Wholesale Officer at e&, Seif Mounib, Vice President of International and Wholesale at Telecom Egypt, Budi Satria Dharma Purba, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Telin, and Indian operators.
This signing moment shows the commitment of all parties to invest and develop the global bandwidth market to serve customers better. Nabil Baccouche, e& Group Chief Carrier and Wholesale Officer said that through the ICE IV Project, we are redefining the connectivity map, bringing continents closer together than ever before, and opening up bandwidth access for billions of people.
“With our commitment to making SmartHub the largest neutral carrier hub location of choice, the ICE IV Project will accelerate connectivity. The new DC to DC system will enable us to further increase global capabilities and capacity to meet the growing needs of customers across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia and America,” said Nabil.
Mohamed Nasr, Managing Director and CEO at Telecom Egypt also commented. He said that since the evolution of subsea fiber optics more than 30 years ago, Telecom Egypt has been an important part of supporting the development of SKKL projects, especially those connecting Southeast Asia to Europe. The dedicated route is considered core infrastructure connecting the largest continent, and one of the main SKKL routes that continues to develop.

We provide open access for more than 20 SKKL cables landing in Egypt with international transit infrastructure The unique and high standard will be part of the planned design. In addition, the ICE IV Project will enable us to expand the reach and further diversify our SKKL infrastructure portfolio to quickly address the growing demand for global connectivity,” said Nasr.
Furthermore, Budi Satria Dharma Purba, CEO of Telin, said that customers today demand the best experience which encourages providers to innovate and build networks with low latency on diverse and unique routes. This encourages Telin to make Indonesia a future hub in the Indo-Pacific region.
“We can create new opportunities for all ICE cable systems by integrating them with relevant countries and systems. Indonesian Cable Express will be the bridge. Telin’s initiative in the ICE project ensures an efficient cost structure and faster implementation,” he explained.
The ICE project involves 7 separate cable systems connecting Indonesia to all potential markets. Over the next 5 years, construction will begin, each according to 4 basic principles: DC to DC Access, Ultra Low Latency, Differentiated Landings, and Unique Routes. (AT Network)
