ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Chinese Embassy in Singapore ordered its citizens to stay away from gambling places, on Monday, March 18 2024. The announcement was made because cross-border gambling is against the law in China.
The Chinese embassy tries to increase the legal awareness of its citizens because this is strictly prohibited by China.
“Even if overseas casinos are officially opened, cross-border gambling by Chinese citizens is suspected of violating our country’s laws,” the embassy said as quoted by the Malay Mail.
The Chinese government has been aggressively fighting cross-border gambling since last January. This started when Chinese authorities followed up on the activities of a group of illegal cross-border gamblers in several countries in 2021.
The criminal group established companies in various countries to provide assets to agents and gamblers in exchange for gambling credits, chips and other services, as well as to recover gambling debts.
Chinese authorities announced that they had handled 464,000 cases related to telecommunications fraud and online gambling last year, with 351 ringleaders and key members of criminal groups arrested. They suspect that this is a new type of crime that threatens China.
“Local authorities paid great attention to implementing various measures to combat new types of crime and took primary responsibility for industrial supervision in the past year,” said a statement from the Criminal Investigation Department of China’s Public Security ministry, quoted by AGB.
However, groups of Chinese gamblers who feel criminalized as a result of the new regulations choose to look for gambling opportunities in other countries.
However, the Chinese embassy added that the embassy or consulate cannot provide protection if someone violates these rules. (ATN)
