Norwegian Ambassador: Indonesia is a Global Leader in Reducing Deforestation

Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia, Rut Kruger Giverin. Doc

ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Norwegian Ambassador to Indonesia, Rut Kruger Giverin, revealed that Indonesia is one of the countries with the lowest deforestation rates in the world over the last 20 years.

“Indonesia has shown the world as a global leader in reducing deforestation. “The deforestation rate in Indonesia is currently one of the lowest in the world in the last 20 years,” said Rut at the National Seminar forum at the Heritage Building, Jakarta, Thursday, April 25 2024.

According to him, Indonesia is the country most impacted by climate change. This can be seen from various extreme events that occur such as floods, forest fires, drought and rising sea levels.

However, Indonesia has been successful in its efforts to mitigate extreme climate change through forest conservation in various provinces in Indonesia. This minimizes the impact of prolonged dry seasons, high rainfall and natural disasters.

In 2016, Indonesia was one of the countries that signed the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

Rut advised the Indonesian government and people to continue to care about the climate.

“Even though we know that the world is not okay at the moment. Many bad things are happening, such as the war in Ukraine, the war in Gaza and the Middle East. “Maybe today’s young people also have pressure and school education, but to have concern for the climate is also equally important,” he added.
