ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI) as a subholding of PT PLN (Persero) is collaborating with the Indokorea Gas Consortium in realizing gasification plants for the Nusa Tenggara cluster through the development of midstream liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure, especially in the Nusa Tenggara region.
This step was marked by the signing of a joint development agreement (JDA) carried out by both parties, namely PLN EPI and the Indokorea Gas Consortium in Jakarta, on Friday, March 22 2024.
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said the company had started a gasification project in the Nusa Tenggara cluster as part of the energy transition efforts launched in the Accelerated Renewable Energy Development (ARED) strategy, where 25% of electricity supply would come from gas plants.
“The gasification carried out by PLN in the Nusa Tenggara region is an implementation of Accelerated Renewable Energy Development which aims to encourage economic progress for local communities,” said Darmawan in a press release, Thursday, March 28 2024.
PLN Generation Management Director Adi Lumakso said that this partnership was a significant step in advancing LNG midstream infrastructure in West and East Nusa Tenggara.
“This project is very important to encourage the energy transition at PLN which is also an efficiency effort through converting diesel fuel to gas,” said Adi.
Adi hopes that this collaboration can encourage the completion of midstream LNG infrastructure development in a timely manner so that the realization of emission reductions and efficiency can be realized immediately.
PLN EPI President Director Iwan Agung Firstantara said that the development of midstream LNG infrastructure in the Nusa Tenggara region would involve six locations on the islands of Lombok, Sumbawa, Flores and Timor with a total capacity of 377 MW in the first stage.
“Developing midstream LNG infrastructure is an important step. This will play a key role in the energy transition towards reducing the use of fossil fuels and supporting renewable energy,” said Iwan.
Thus, the development of midstream LNG infrastructure in the Eastern region of Indonesia, including Nusa Tenggara, will help reduce dependence on fuel oil and support the development of renewable energy through midstream LNG facilities managed by PLN EPI together with partners.
Director of PT Prima Osean Nusantara Pieters Adyana Utomo appreciated the realization of this collaboration, where the use of gas has an important role in the energy transition.
“This collaboration certainly highlights the important role of gas in the energy transition, especially considering that Indonesia has abundant gas reserves,” said Pieters.
Executive Vice President Energy Business Division Kogas Tech Min Ho Song said that his party appreciates the trust given to the Indokorea Gas consortium.
“Kogas tech has experience and technology in developing LNG terminal and regasification facilities, especially in South Korea,” said Song. (ATN)
