ASIATODAY.ID, KOLAKA – PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama (Ceria Corp) has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable mining and environmental stewardship through its Green Legacy program, a large-scale tree-planting initiative launched to commemorate World Environment Day 2026.

The program underscores Ceria Corp’s growing role as one of Indonesia’s leading green nickel producers, demonstrating how responsible mining can contribute to ecosystem restoration while supporting the global energy transition.

Ceria Corp is an integrated Indonesian nickel mining and processing company that has successfully produced green nickel products through its Merah Putih Smelter in Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi. These efforts have positioned Ceria among Indonesia’s pioneers in sustainable nickel production, supplying a critical mineral increasingly needed for electric vehicle batteries and clean energy technologies worldwide.

Held on June 9, 2026, at the Emerald Peak revegetation area in Wolo District, Kolaka Regency, the Green Legacy initiative forms part of Ceria’s broader strategy to accelerate post-mining land rehabilitation while strengthening ESG implementation across its operations.

Carrying the theme “One Tree, One Legacy, One Commitment,” the initiative was launched shortly after Ceria received its first Green PROPER Award for the 2024–2025 assessment period from Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment. The award recognizes companies whose environmental performance exceeds regulatory compliance requirements and demonstrates innovation in sustainability management.

The Emerald Peak rehabilitation area has become a symbol of Ceria’s environmental achievements, showcasing how modern mining activities can coexist with ecosystem recovery through structured, measurable, and long-term rehabilitation programs.

President Director Abdul Haris Tatang said the Green Legacy initiative was designed to connect employees and stakeholders directly with the company’s environmental mission.

“Every tree planted becomes part of a shared history and a lasting legacy. Green Legacy reminds us that every member of the Ceria family has a role in creating a greener future and restoring environmental value for future generations,” Tatang said.

The initiative brought together hundreds of participants, including company executives, employees, local government representatives, community leaders, contractors, and other stakeholders, reflecting the importance of collaboration in advancing sustainable development.

One of the program’s key innovations is a digital tree-tracking system. Every tree planted is recorded with detailed information, including the planter’s identity, plant species, planting date, and precise GPS coordinates.

The information is integrated into the company’s environmental database, enabling real-time monitoring of plant growth and long-term evaluation of revegetation success.

Krishna Ismaputa, Head of Sustainability & Corporate Management System at Ceria Corp, said Green Legacy is an integral part of the company’s sustainability strategy and contributes directly to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“This program supports SDG 13 on Climate Action, SDG 14 on Life Below Water, and SDG 15 on Life on Land. Through integrated planting and monitoring systems, we aim to ensure that every environmental contribution generates measurable and lasting benefits,” Krishna said.

Meanwhile, Environmental Manager Akramakum Ramli explained that all seedlings planted during the program were sourced from Ceria’s own nursery and placed within designated rehabilitation zones established under the company’s environmental management plan.

Each planting site is documented through GPS coordinates, species identification, participant records, and planting dates. The information is integrated into the company’s Go Mine system and forms part of Ceria’s official revegetation database, which supports reporting obligations to the Ministry of Environment and the Directorate General of Minerals and Coal.

Ceria’s commitment to environmental restoration is reflected in its rehabilitation achievements. To date, the company has successfully revegetated 199.64 hectares of former mining land, significantly exceeding Indonesia’s regulatory minimum requirements.

The achievement highlights Ceria’s commitment to Good Mining Practice and reinforces its position as a producer of green nickel products that integrates environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and sound corporate governance throughout its operations.

In line with the spirit of the Green PROPER Award, Ceria continues to promote environmental innovation that delivers measurable benefits for sustainable development. Through Green Legacy, the company aims to strengthen collaboration between industry, government, communities, and other stakeholders in preserving ecosystems while supporting responsible resource development.

For Ceria, every tree planted today represents more than environmental rehabilitation. It is a long-term investment in sustainability, biodiversity, and future generations.

“Protecting the planet is not merely an obligation. It is a shared responsibility that must be passed from one generation to the next,” said Ceria Sustainability Manager Ajron Adhiema.

With nearly 200 hectares of former mine land restored and a growing portfolio of ESG-driven initiatives, Ceria Corp continues to demonstrate that sustainable nickel production and environmental recovery can go hand in hand, setting a benchmark for responsible mining in Indonesia and beyond.
