ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Brunei Darussalam government has spoken out regarding plans to build the Trans Borneo high-speed train project that crosses the Indonesian capital city (IKN).

The Trans Borneo train has recently been widely discussed by the public on social media, because the project will connect transportation to 3 countries at once, namely Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam.

Most recently, the Brunei government denied being related to the fast train project. They stated that they had not appointed a local or foreign company to handle the project.

“In this regard, the Ministry of Transportation and Information Communications would like to convey a statement that the Government of Brunei Darussalam has never offered or even appointed a local or foreign company to handle the project,” MTIC wrote on its official website, on Saturday, April 6 2024.

The Brunei Darussalam government also stated that there had been no official discussion at government level regarding this matter or between the state and interested parties.

“A project of this magnitude certainly requires commitment from the respective governments first,” he added.

The ministry also appealed to be careful in making statements in public. Apart from that, it is necessary to review and validate every information received, because it is important to prevent misunderstandings and to create social harmony between countries.

The company from Brunei Darussalam, Brunergy Utama, previously said that it was working on plans to build a Trans Borneo high-speed train with Malaysia and Indonesia connecting Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei and the IKN region in Kalimantan.

The Trans Borneo Train Project is said to stretch 1,620 kilometers across 3 countries from West to East Kalimantan Island.

According to Nikkei Asia, the first phase of the Trans Borneo Fast Train project will connect Pontianak, the capital of West Kalimantan, Kuching, Kinabalu, to Tutong district, Brunei.

Meanwhile, the second phase of Trans Borneo will cross the southern and eastern regions of Kalimantan, including Samarinda and Balikpapan. (ATN)
