ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The United States (US) government has announced the sale of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and related equipment to increase Taiwan’s defense capabilities worth US$300 million and US$60.2 million to Taiwan.
Taiwanese Presidential Office Spokesperson Kuo Ya-hui stated that the Presidential Palace expressed its gratitude to the US government for its efforts to continue to strengthen partnership and cooperative relations with Taiwan, jointly maintaining regional peace and stability in accordance with the Taiwan Relations Act and the Six Guarantees.
“This is the 15th arms sale to Taiwan announced by the Biden administration since he took office in 2021. This decision shows the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait to the US, and its firm commitment to Taiwan’s security,” said Kuo Ya-hui, quoted Monday, June 24.
The two types of weapons in this purchase are the Switchblade 300 anti-personnel missile system and the ALTIUS 600M-V anti-armor UAV, as well as related equipment, support and training, to help meet the Taiwan military’s defense operations and combat readiness training requirements.
Kuo Ya-hui said that Taiwan will continue to strengthen defense capabilities and asymmetric defense capabilities, increase deterrence capabilities, firmly defend freedom and democracy in accordance with the constitutional system, and cooperate with like-minded countries to maintain the rules-based international order.
“Taiwan will also continue to strengthen partnership relations with like-minded countries, protect a free and open Indo-Pacific region and contribute to global peace, stability and prosperity. “Taiwan will continue to act as a force for good in the world,” he added.
Meanwhile, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in its latest release explained that China has repeatedly used gray zone strategies to harass Taiwan and neighboring countries, or used military threats, provoking democratic countries in the region.
In response to China’s actions, the United States and its partners have repeatedly called on China to stop threats against Taiwan and stop irrational actions that undermine peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. (AT Network)
