ASIATODAY.ID, BALI – Indonesia and Angola have agreed to expand bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of trade, agro-industry and fisheries.
The agreement was discussed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Retno Marsudi and the Minister of State Secretary of Angola, Adão de Almeida, on Monday, September 2 2024 on the sidelines of the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum in Bali.
During the meeting, Retno hoped that the already good political relations between Indonesia and Angola would also need to be strengthened with strong economic cooperation.
“Political relations alone are not enough. “Economic cooperation must be a shared priority,” he said.
In connection with this, Retno encouraged negotiations on the Preferential Tariff Agreement (PTA) between Indonesia and Angola to begin immediately. It is hoped that the Indonesia – Angola PTA can become a solid foundation for strengthening economic relations between the two countries, as well as creating more business and investment opportunities.
Minister Adão de Almeida agreed on the importance of strengthening this economic cooperation. He expressed Angola’s desire to strengthen more concrete cooperation and further explore the potential of the two countries, especially in the oil, mineral, health and food security sectors.
Furthermore, Adão de Almeida expressed his hope of being able to produce medicines independently. For this reason, he invited investors from Indonesia to support this.
The Angolan side will hold separate meetings with Biofarma and Pertamina to identify other potential collaborations. He also hopes that discussions regarding oil sector cooperation with Indonesia can be continued.
The two Ministers agreed to diversify economic commodities and continue to explore various potential sectors, including downstream industry, agro-industry and fisheries sectors.
Apart from that, in this meeting, the two Ministers also discussed plans for the visit of the President of Angola to Indonesia in early 2025 and plans for deliverables from this visit.
Minister Retno congratulated the opening of the Angolan Embassy in Jakarta. This shows the increasingly close relations between the two countries since the start of diplomatic relations in 2001. (AT Network)
