ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Two Chinese citizens, XF and WS, who are part of an international syndicate, were arrested by West Jakarta Immigration officers after their criminal activities were uncovered.
The two Chinese citizens are known to have committed crimes by recruiting Indonesian citizens to be employed as scammers in Thailand, Laos and Cambodia.
Head of the West Jakarta Non-TPI Special Class I Immigration Office, Nur Raisha Pujiastuti, said that in this operation, officers from the West Jakarta Immigration Office secured the alleged perpetrator along with evidence related to the recruitment process.
Starting from a cyber patrol carried out by the Immigration Intelligence and Enforcement Division of the West Jakarta Immigration Office, officers found indications of suspicious job offers via Facebook.
“In an era of increasingly rapidly developing technology, cyber patrols are very effective in preventing transnational crimes. “This is proof of our commitment to continue to strengthen supervision of foreigners’ activities in Indonesia,” said Nur Raisha in a written statement on Friday, September 6 2024.
The disclosure of the actions of the two perpetrators began on Tuesday, August 27 2024, when Immigration officers went undercover to meet XF and WS, Chinese citizens, at a coffee shop in the Pancoran Glodok area.
During the meeting, prospective workers were asked to conduct an interview and undergo a computer proficiency test. After this process, prospective workers make a video call with representatives of prospective employers from abroad and are asked about their readiness to work as a scammer with 12 working hours adjusted to United States time.
Prospective workers are promised a salary of a certain amount, depending on performance, as well as providing round-trip tickets, accommodation and overtime pay. After being declared successful, prospective workers are directed to immediately make a passport and are promised that the cost of making the passport will be reimbursed by the company after the process is complete.
After the prospective workers succeeded in getting a passport, the two Chinese citizens arranged a meeting again on September 2 2024 in the Pancoran Glodok area, with the aim of handing over the passport and providing replacement money for the passport fee.
