ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has established a strategic collaboration with one of the large company groups from China which operates in the nickel processing industry from upstream to downstream, CNGR, and a leading university in the field of metallurgical engineering, Central South University.
This tripartite collaboration gave birth to a human resource capacity development program that focuses on metallurgical engineering and materials technology. This program will be implemented on the campus of Central South University, one of the leading universities in China which has a strong reputation in the field of materials engineering.
A number of selected professionals from Indonesia will undergo intensive training, so they are expected to return to their country armed with sufficient knowledge and skills to support the development of domestic industry.
Head of the Human Resources Development Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Prahoro Yulijanto Nurtjahyo, said that this collaboration was a very representative form of tripartite collaboration.
As the world’s largest nickel producer, Indonesia has abundant metal resources. Meanwhile, Central South University is a leading institution in metallurgy and materials science, making it an ideal place to develop talent in the new energy sector. CNGR, as a leader in the new energy materials industry, has significant technological advantages and industrial scale.
“This collaboration will be a model of collaboration between Indonesia and China in the fields of industry, academics and research. This partnership will also open up wider opportunities to advance the new energy industry in both countries, as well as contribute to global industrial development,” he explained while visiting the industrial area. Based on the cooperation agreement, this training program will last for three years, combining theoretical studies with practical training in industry. This program is designed to train technical personnel, engineers from the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, as well as CNGR employees from Indonesia.
The three parties will utilize their respective strengths in developing high-quality talents in the fields of materials and chemical engineering, with a focus on metallurgical engineering.
Meanwhile, CNGR Chairman and CEO Deng Weiming emphasized that this program is part of the Belt and Road initiative, which has begun its reach throughout the world since 2021. Three of the four raw material production sites that CNGR has built in Indonesia are already operational.
In addition, CNGR was the first in the world to industrialize the nickel laterite ore smelting process using the oxygen enriched side blowing process.
“This increases industrial cooperation between Indonesia and neighboring countries. In the future, we will work together to create a green, efficient and sustainable development path, and contribute to building a shared future for humanity,” he added.
