ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia’s date import activity is increasing ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia’s date imports in February 2025 reached 16,470 tons with a value of US$18.09 million.
“The largest import came from Egypt at 9,240 tons with a percentage of 56.12 percent of Indonesia’s total date imports,” said Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, through her statement in Jakarta, Monday, March 17, 2025.
After Egypt, the country of origin of the largest date imports is Saudi Arabia at 2,690 tons with a percentage of 16.32 percent, then the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at 1,190 tons of dates with a percentage of 7.22 percent.
According to Amalia, date imports to Indonesia have continued to increase in the last five months.
“The highest increase was in January and February 2025,” he said.
Date imports in January were recorded at 16,426 tons. During this year’s Ramadan period, imported dates increased sharply compared to the same period in 2024.
At that time, the largest date imports occurred in February 2024 at 11,243 tons. This is much lower than date imports per February this year which reached 16,470 tons. (AT Network)
