ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has officially announced that Indonesia is ready to receive victims from Gaza, Palestine, who have suffered injuries and trauma due to the ongoing Israeli military attacks.
“We are prepared to welcome war victims from Gaza — the injured, the traumatized, and orphaned children. Anyone recommended by the Palestinian authorities and relevant parties who seeks evacuation to Indonesia will be accepted,” President Prabowo stated during a press conference at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, in the early hours of Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
Indonesia plans to deploy aircraft to facilitate the evacuation process, with an estimated 1,000 people to be evacuated in the first phase. President Prabowo has also instructed Foreign Minister Sugiono to coordinate directly with the Palestinian government.
“I have ordered the Foreign Minister to discuss the technical arrangements with the Palestinian authorities. We are ready to send planes to evacuate them, and the initial number is estimated to be around 1,000 people in the first wave,” he added.
Evacuation is Temporary and Conditional
President Prabowo emphasized that the evacuation is temporary. Once the health and psychological condition of the evacuees improve and the situation in Gaza stabilizes, they are expected to return to their homeland.
“The condition is that all relevant parties must agree to this humanitarian mission. Their stay in Indonesia is temporary until they recover. Once they are healthy and the situation in Gaza allows, they must return to their homeland,” President Prabowo stressed.
Indonesia’s Commitment to Peace in Gaza
President Prabowo acknowledged that resolving the conflict in Gaza is highly complex and challenging. Therefore, he plans to consult with leaders of Middle Eastern countries to seek a comprehensive solution.
“This is the position of the Indonesian government. I will consult with the regional leaders because we continue to receive envoys and phone calls asking about Indonesia’s readiness to assist or support the resolution of the Gaza conflict,” he explained.
“This is a complex and delicate matter, but Indonesia remains committed to supporting the safety and independence of the Palestinian people. I believe Indonesia must play a more active role,” President Prabowo affirmed.
Indonesia’s Role in Promoting Peace in the Middle East
According to President Prabowo, Indonesia has a moral responsibility to contribute to peace efforts in the Middle East region.
“I reiterate that Indonesia is ready to play a role if requested by all involved parties. We are prepared to contribute based on our capacity and capabilities,” he concluded.
President Prabowo’s Diplomatic Visit to Turkey and Middle Eastern Countries
President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to conduct a state visit to Turkey and three Middle Eastern countries: the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt, Qatar, and Jordan.
The visit will begin in Abu Dhabi, UAE, where President Prabowo is set to meet with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss geopolitical and geo-economic developments.
Following the UAE visit, President Prabowo will travel to Ankara, Turkey, to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. This visit is a reciprocal gesture following President Erdogan’s recent visit to Indonesia.
President Prabowo will also attend a diplomatic forum in Antalya, Turkey, where both leaders will discuss issues concerning geopolitics, the economy, education, culture, and trade.
His next stop will be Cairo, Egypt, on Saturday, April 12, 2025, for a meeting with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. Afterward, President Prabowo will head to Doha, Qatar, to strengthen strategic cooperation and sign several significant agreements between the two countries.
President Prabowo will conclude his diplomatic mission in Jordan, where he is scheduled to meet with King Abdullah II.
Indonesia’s Global Diplomatic Position
President Prabowo emphasized that there have been many requests for Indonesia to support conflict resolution efforts in Gaza.
“Although Indonesia is geographically distant from the Middle East, as the country with the world’s largest Muslim population, and as a non-aligned nation that maintains an independent and active foreign policy, Indonesia has a unique and respected position globally,” he stated.
According to President Prabowo, Indonesia’s neutral and balanced stance is well-received by all conflicting parties, strengthening its role in contributing to peace efforts in the Middle East.(AT Network)
