ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – The Indonesian government, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has called on India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and prioritize peaceful dialogue to de-escalate rising tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
In an official statement released via its X account @Kemlu_RI on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Indonesia is closely monitoring the ongoing situation of the India-Pakistan conflict.
“Indonesia urges both parties to exercise restraint and prioritize peaceful resolution through dialogue to safeguard regional stability,” MOFA Indonesia stated.
As a precautionary measure, MOFA Indonesia also issued an advisory for all Indonesian citizens residing in India and Pakistan to remain vigilant. Indonesians are advised to avoid traveling to affected areas and locations that may become potential targets of the conflict.
Tensions escalated after India, on Tuesday night, May 6, confirmed the launch of missile strikes on several cities in Pakistan, including parts of Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
In a press release, the Embassy of India in Jakarta clarified that the strikes solely targeted known terrorist camps and did not aim at any civilian, economic, or military facilities in Pakistan.
“These actions were focused and precise. India possesses credible evidence, including technical data and eyewitness testimonies, indicating clear involvement of Pakistan-based terrorists,” the embassy stated.
However, Pakistani officials reported casualties resulting from the attack. Pakistan’s military spokesperson, Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, confirmed that at least eight people were killed, 35 injured, and two remain missing.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the strikes, calling them a “cowardly act” and an “act of war.” He affirmed that Pakistan would deliver a proportionate response to India’s aggression.
Background of the Conflict
The escalation in the India-Pakistan conflict stems from a deadly attack on 22 April 2025 in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of at least 26 people. This incident has significantly heightened tensions in the region.
As a nation that upholds the principle of peaceful conflict resolution, Indonesia continues to encourage both India and Pakistan to show restraint, halt military escalation, and return to the negotiation table to ensure stability and peace in South Asia. (AT Network)
