ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA – Indonesia’s Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) has officially entered a strategic partnership with French mining giant Eramet to invest in nickel downstream projects in Indonesia. This landmark collaboration aims to strengthen Indonesia’s position as a global hub for electric vehicle (EV) battery raw materials.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by President Prabowo Subianto and French President Emmanuel Macron during a bilateral meeting at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
The partnership seeks to establish a strategic investment platform that integrates the entire nickel value chain, from upstream operations to downstream processing, while promoting a sustainable and integrated EV ecosystem.
Danantara’s Chief Investment Officer, Pandu Sjahrir, emphasized that the partnership represents a significant step toward long-term, sustainable investment in the country.
“This collaboration strengthens Indonesia’s role as a global player in the EV battery supply chain. Danantara will oversee long-term project financing, while Eramet brings world-class technical expertise and experience in managing large-scale, sustainable mining projects,” he stated.
The initiative prioritizes not only economic value and efficiency but also adherence to rigorous international Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards, aligning with green mining and sustainable development practices.
INA Joins Forces to Support Critical Minerals Sector
The Indonesia Investment Authority (INA) is also involved in the strategic investment plan. INA’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, Ridha Wirakusumah, welcomed the initiative as a key step in strengthening Indonesia’s critical minerals supply chain, particularly nickel.
“This strategic collaboration between Eramet, Danantara, and INA combines global technical excellence with robust, long-term financing structures that will fuel the growth of Indonesia’s nickel downstream industry,” Ridha explained.
Eramet Group CEO, Paulo Castellari, reaffirmed the company’s deep-rooted commitment to Indonesia, having operated in the country since 2006 through its nickel mining activities in Weda Bay, North Maluku.
“Eramet has played a significant role in developing one of Indonesia’s largest nickel reserves. In 2024, we partnered with the Geological Agency of Indonesia to begin the exploration of critical minerals such as lithium to support the national energy transition agenda,” said Paulo.
He added that Danantara and INA’s strategic priorities in nickel downstream processing and critical mineral development are well aligned with Eramet’s long-term vision in Indonesia. (AT Network)
