ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Global battery materials leader Huayou Cobalt, in collaboration with the UN Global Compact and 18 partner institutions, officially launched the China-Indonesia Community Sustainability Action Network during the First Global Business Summit for High-Quality Belt and Road Development, held in Jakarta, May 25, 2025 ago.
This multilateral initiative aims to deepen China-Indonesia cooperation through a grassroots, community-driven model. The first phase will focus on enhancing education, healthcare, employment opportunities, and local empowerment—especially in areas surrounding Huayou’s industrial operations in Indonesia.
Huayou Cobalt has made major strides in Indonesia’s nickel refining industry, which is critical to the global electric vehicle (EV) battery supply chain. The company operates through subsidiaries such as PT Huayue Nickel Cobalt (HNC) and PT Huafei Nickel Cobalt (HFNC), based in the Morowali and Weda Bay industrial parks. These investments are not only economic but also aligned with green energy transitions and sustainable development.
Huayou’s operations in Indonesia reflect its long-term commitment to both industrial advancement and environmental stewardship, integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into its core strategy.
Gao Baojun, Senior Vice President of Huayou Cobalt, underscored the company’s mission to build inclusive and sustainable communities.
“We are committed to delivering sustainable livelihood solutions by leveraging resources and implementing a participatory development model, in line with ESG standards and the high-quality vision of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI),” quoted Monday, June 9, 2025.
At the launch event, representatives from China and Indonesia jointly illuminated a symbolic light installation—signifying collaboration, mutual trust, and a shared commitment to sustainable progress.
The event marks the beginning of a robust cross-border cooperation platform under the Belt and Road framework, with a strong focus on delivering tangible benefits to local communities. (AT Network)
