ASIATODAY.ID, BANDUNG – Indonesia has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating the energy transition by strengthening cooperation with Switzerland.
The two countries officially renewed their partnership in the development of renewable energy through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Indonesia’s Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) of Switzerland in Bandung, Thursday, October 2, 2025.
Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Yuliot, emphasized that the country holds enormous renewable energy potential—estimated at 3,687 GW—but only a fraction has been utilized.
Through the National Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) 2025–2034, the government targets an additional 42 GW of renewable energy capacity, particularly in Java, Madura, and Bali.
“Accelerating the energy transition cannot rely solely on domestic efforts. Strategic cooperation with partners like Switzerland is key to strengthening human resources and expanding the utilization of green energy,” Yuliot stated.
Switzerland Supports Indonesia’s Green Energy Vocational Training
Swiss Vice President and Federal Councillor, Guy Parmelin, said his country is proud to continue its collaboration with Indonesia. Building on previous successes in manufacturing education, the focus will now expand to renewable energy and workforce competitiveness.
Two key programs will be implemented:
1. Renewable Energy Skills Development, to support Indonesia’s energy transition.
2. Skills for Competitiveness Program, aimed at strengthening the private sector by enhancing the quality of the Indonesian workforce.
Head of BPSDM ESDM, Prahoro Yulijanto Nurtjahyo, explained that this partnership is a continuation of the Renewable Energy Skill Development (RESD) program, which plays a crucial role in the energy transition process. The cooperation will focus on:
Developing vocational-based curricula,
Providing equipment to support renewable energy utilization,
Promoting awareness of the importance of green energy.
According to Prahoro, Switzerland was chosen as a partner due to its success in developing vocational education in collaboration with Germany.
“Switzerland is a proven model in advancing polytechnic education. Indonesia can learn a great deal from their system to prepare professionals for the renewable energy sector,” Prahoro noted.
This strategic collaboration is expected not only to produce skilled workers but also to nurture future leaders who will help position Indonesia as a leading country in clean energy.
With Swiss support, Indonesia is optimistic about accelerating its energy transition toward a greener, more efficient, and sustainable future. (AT Network)
