ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — The Indonesian House of Representatives’ Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) has welcomed the plan by the State of Arizona, United States, to open a trade office in Indonesia.
According to Mardani Ali Sera, Chair of BKSAP, this initiative represents a golden opportunity to strengthen economic, investment, and educational cooperation between the two nations.
The meeting between BKSAP and the Arizona State Legislature delegation took place warmly at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Monday, October 20, 2025.
The Arizona delegates expressed their commitment to expanding economic networks through the establishment of a trade office in Indonesia, following similar offices previously opened in Taiwan and South Korea.
“We are very pleased to welcome members of the Arizona legislature. They came with good intentions to strengthen ties not only in trade but also in education and mining cooperation through Arizona State University and various Arizona-based companies,” said Mardani.
Mardani emphasized that Arizona has strong potential in mining, energy, and green economy sectors, making it a strategic partner for Indonesia. The establishment of the trade office, he added, reflects Arizona’s trust in Indonesia’s economic potential.
“Arizona has significant capital strength as a mining region. They want to expand their economic capacity in Asia, and Indonesia is one of their most promising partners,” explained the PKS Party legislator from East Jakarta.
Arizona Expands Economic Footprint in Southeast Asia
Beyond Jakarta, the Arizona delegation also visited Bali and Batam to explore cooperation opportunities across sectors such as tourism, renewable energy, and education technology.
Mardani affirmed that BKSAP DPR RI fully supports initiatives that strengthen inter-parliamentary relations and foster cooperation between U.S. states and Indonesian regional governments.
“We see this as a valuable opportunity. We will ensure that the plan to open Arizona’s trade office in Indonesia proceeds smoothly, creating direct partnerships between Arizona and several Indonesian provinces,” he noted.
He further said that the partnership would boost trade, investment, and human resource development in Indonesia.
“Arizona has strong mining potential, while Indonesia offers vast natural resources and a large consumer market. This collaboration will be a win-win solution,” Mardani added.
Initial Focus: Jakarta, Banten, West Java, Bali, and Batam
At the initial stage, cooperation will focus on Jakarta, Banten, West Java, Bali, and Batam, which are considered to have strong infrastructure readiness and high investment potential.
Mardani also stressed the importance of technical and regional readiness studies to ensure the program’s success.
“This good intention must be followed by a technical study, then economic consideration, and finally political engagement. We must identify which regions are best prepared for partnership,” he explained.
In conclusion, Mardani highlighted that the Arizona delegation’s visit reflects strong international confidence in Indonesia’s economic and political stability.
“They traveled 13,000 kilometers to meet us—it was Arizona that came knocking. This is a golden opportunity proving that Indonesia remains a strategic partner and a top global investment destination,” Mardani concluded. (AT Network)
