ASIATODAY.ID, SOLO – The deeply meaningful journey of wellness tourism under the grand theme “Wonderful Indonesia Wellness 2025” officially commenced in Solo, Central Java, and Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY).
Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana said that the launch of “Wonderful Indonesia Wellness 2025” is not merely an effort to promote premium wellness tourism, but also a celebration of Indonesia’s rich local wisdom and authentic wellness traditions passed down through generations.
“Tonight marks a truly special moment—not only the inauguration of a program, but a celebration of Indonesia’s living traditions of wellness that have long been part of our communities,” Minister Widiyanti said at the opening of Wonderful Indonesia Wellness 2025 at Balekambang Park, Solo, on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
The inaugural Wonderful Indonesia Wellness program runs throughout November (1–30, 2025) as an umbrella initiative integrating and promoting two major regional festivals: the Royal Surakarta Wellness Festival, organized by the Surakarta Palace, and the Jogja Cultural Wellness Festival, hosted by the Yogyakarta Regional Tourism Promotion Board.
The Royal Surakarta Wellness Festival features key programs such as Javanese Wisdom Immersion, Gending for Therapy, Royal Dance Symphony, A Holy Journey, and Javanese Secret Recipe.
Meanwhile, the Jogja Cultural Wellness Festival presents sessions including Healthy Food and Herbals, Eco-Friendly Living, Spiritual Wellness and Energy Healing, Natural Beauty, Family and Inner Child, and Harmony in Wellness.
Together, both festivals showcase the essence of Javanese tradition blended with the spirit of authentic Indonesian cultural wellness.
“Our highest appreciation goes to the Keraton Kasunanan Surakarta Hadiningrat and the Yogyakarta Regional Tourism Promotion Board for this remarkable collaboration. Without such harmony, this historic moment would not have been possible,” said Minister Widiyanti.
“With Wonderful Indonesia Wellness, we hope to welcome more travelers—both domestic and international—to experience the soul of Indonesian wellness,” she added.
Gusti Raden Ayu Putri Purnaningrum, Project Leader of the Royal Surakarta Cultural Wellness Festival, emphasized that this event is not merely a festival, but a movement to raise awareness that wellness encompasses not only physical health, but also inner balance, cultural beauty, and harmony with nature.
“Through this festival, we want to show the world that Indonesia has enormous potential in developing wellness tourism that rejuvenates the body, refreshes the mind, and nourishes the soul,” she stated.
Solo Mayor Respati Ardi expressed his gratitude for the Ministry of Tourism’s trust in designating Solo as one of Indonesia’s wellness tourism destinations under Wonderful Indonesia Wellness.
He reaffirmed the city’s commitment to strengthening Solo’s position as a global wellness destination.
One tangible effort includes the implementation of Solo Medical Tourism and Among Tamu Solo, offering holistic and authentic health journeys in the heart of Java.
“Let us realize Indonesia’s dream of becoming a world-class tourism destination, starting from the city that calms the soul—Surakarta, the City of Solo,” Mayor Respati declared.
Vinsensius Jemadu, Deputy for Event Development at the Ministry of Tourism, stated that the ministry targets around 5,000 visitors, considering wellness tourism as part of the special interest segment.
“In addition, we expect total economic benefits for local MSMEs, with projected transactions between Rp8.5 billion and Rp9 billion,” Vinsensius added.
Book Launch
During the event, Minister Widiyanti proudly launched the book “Wellness Journey Across the Java Wonders”, which introduces the beauty of Javanese wellness traditions through curated travel routes across Yogyakarta and Solo.
The publication offers inspiration on how travelers can experience wellness holistically, while serving as a practical guide for travel agents and tour operators in developing sustainable, market-ready wellness packages.
“Through this initiative, Indonesia’s wellness heritage will become more recognized, appreciated, and enjoyed by people around the world. This book serves as a bridge between culture and experience—connecting the legacy of the past with the future of Indonesian tourism,” Minister Widiyanti concluded. (AT Network)
