ASIATODAY.ID, JAKARTA — Indonesia is expanding its network of strategic defense partnerships through a series of high-level diplomatic engagements.
Thursday, November 13, 2025, Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin received the ambassadors of France and Mongolia to reinforce bilateral cooperation aimed at promoting regional stability and global peace.
Indonesia–France Deepen Strategic Defense Partnership
Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin met with the French Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Fabien Penone, in a discussion that underscored the growing intensity of defense cooperation between the two countries, now elevated to a strategic partnership.
Key issues highlighted during the meeting included:
Accelerating the completion of the Mutual Logistics Support Agreement (MLSA),
Strengthening collaboration on peacekeeping missions,
Expanding cooperation in education and language training, including professional development for TNI personnel and the enhancement of French language programs at the Indonesian Military Academy.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening defense cooperation through constructive dialogue and mutual respect, with a shared focus on supporting peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
Indonesia–Mongolia Discuss Expansion of Bilateral Defense Ties
In a separate meeting on the same day, Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin welcomed the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Mongolia to Indonesia, H.E. Enkhtaivan Dashnyam.
The discussion served as an important step in strengthening bilateral relations that have existed since 21 December 1956. Topics covered included:
Enhancing defense policy dialogue,
Expanding cooperation in military training and education,
Exploring opportunities for collaboration in defense industry and technological development.
