ASIATODAY.ID, PHNOM PENH — The Government of Indonesia is reinforcing its education diplomacy in Southeast Asia by expanding study opportunities for Cambodian citizens through The Indonesian Aid Scholarship (TIAS).

The initiative was formalized through the signing of a grant agreement between the Government of Indonesia and the Royal Government of Cambodia on December 30, 2025.

The agreement was signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sport of Cambodia, Hang Chuon Naron, representing the Cambodian government. With the agreement in place, Cambodian prospective students are eligible to apply for the 2026/2027 academic year, with the application period scheduled to open in February or March 2026.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Indonesian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia, Santo Darmosumarto, who encouraged Cambodian citizens to take full advantage of scholarship opportunities offered by the Indonesian government and higher education institutions across Indonesia.

According to the Ambassador, the TIAS program plays a strategic role in supporting Cambodia’s human capital development while strengthening people-to-people ties between Indonesia and Cambodia through academic interaction and cultural exchange on Indonesian campuses.

The Indonesian Aid Scholarship (TIAS) is a flagship scholarship program of the Indonesian government aimed at supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the education sector. Inspired by the spirit of the Asia–Africa Conference, the program is designed to nurture future leaders from Indonesia’s priority partner countries, including Cambodia.

Under the TIAS scheme, Cambodian government officials as well as individuals nominated by the Royal Government of Cambodia are given the opportunity to pursue diploma, undergraduate, and master’s degree programs at universities and polytechnic institutions across Indonesia.

Fields of study include economics—such as accounting, management, and development studies—as well as health sciences, law, informatics, and engineering.

TIAS is a fully funded scholarship, providing comprehensive academic and living support to enable recipients to focus entirely on their studies while adapting smoothly to academic and social life in Indonesia.

The TIAS program is set to run until December 31, 2030, with scholarship intake conducted annually. (AT Network)
