ASIATODAY.ID, RIYADH — Saudi Arabia has delivered a clear geopolitical message on the future of stability in the Horn of Africa, as Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah received Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, in Riyadh on Sunday, January 5, 2026.
During the high-level meeting, Prince Faisal firmly reaffirmed the Kingdom’s full and unwavering support for Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, underscoring Riyadh’s outright rejection of any actions that threaten Somalia’s security or undermine its national stability.
The statement positions Saudi Arabia as a key regional stakeholder amid rising security and political challenges across the Horn of Africa.
The two foreign ministers reviewed bilateral relations between Saudi Arabia and Somalia, exploring concrete ways to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors, including diplomacy, development, and regional security.
Discussions also covered evolving regional dynamics, reflecting shared concerns over instability, maritime security, and broader geopolitical shifts affecting East Africa and the Red Sea corridor.
Saudi and Somali officials additionally exchanged views on a number of issues of mutual interest, signaling an intention to elevate coordination at both bilateral and multilateral levels as Somalia continues its state-building and stabilization efforts.
The meeting was attended by Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Waleed Elkhereiji and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs Ambassador Dr. Saud Al-Sati, highlighting the strategic importance Riyadh attaches to its relationship with Mogadishu.
The talks reinforce Saudi Arabia’s growing diplomatic engagement in Africa and its commitment to supporting regional partners facing security and governance challenges—at a time when Somalia’s stability is increasingly seen as critical to the wider security architecture of the Middle East and East Africa.
