ASIATODAY.ID, SEPANG — Indonesian driver Avila Bahar and Malaysian teammate Aaron Lim swept Round 2 of the 2026 Malaysia Touring Car Championship (MTCC), winning both races for the Honda Malaysia Racing Team (HMRT) at the Sepang International Circuit on June 27, 2026.
Competing in a Honda Civic Turbo 1.5-litre, the pair completed a dominant weekend by claiming victories in Race 1 and Race 2, while Avila recorded the fastest lap in both races. The results further strengthened the Indonesian driver’s impressive 2026 campaign in regional touring car racing.
Avila set the tone in Race 1 by building a comfortable lead during the opening stint before handing the car over to Lim, who maintained the advantage to secure the team’s first victory of the weekend.
The duo repeated their success in Race 2, with Avila again setting the fastest lap on the fourth lap. They crossed the finish line in 51 minutes 00.210 seconds, sealing a second consecutive victory in the Malaysia Touring Car (MTC) category and completing an unbeaten weekend at Sepang.
Despite the dominant performance, Avila credited the achievement to teamwork and the experience of his Malaysian teammate.
“I’m delighted to race alongside Aaron Lim, who is a very experienced driver. We achieved the best possible result together, and I learned a great deal from both the team and my teammate. My performance improved significantly this weekend, and I hope we can carry this momentum into Round 3 and the Sepang 1000km later this season,” Avila said.
The latest success adds to an impressive season for the Indonesian racer. Earlier this year, he also won Round 2 of Indonesia’s National Touring Car Championship at the Mandalika International Circuit, underlining his consistency across both domestic and regional competitions.
The Malaysia Touring Car Championship is one of Malaysia’s leading circuit racing series, attracting top drivers and teams from across Southeast Asia. Avila’s double victory further highlights the growing presence of Indonesian drivers in regional motorsport.
Avila is scheduled to return to the Sepang International Circuit for MTCC Round 3 on July 24–26, before resuming his campaign in Indonesia’s National Touring Car Championship at Mandalika in August.
The result gives Avila and HMRT valuable momentum heading into the next round, with the Indonesian driver aiming to extend his strong form in both the MTCC and Indonesia’s national championship as the 2026 season progresses. (Silvia Andriani)
